Wireless Mic System
Valor Christian High School in Denver, Colorado, operates a highly versatile theater that supports a wide range of events throughout the school year. During the week, the space hosts chapel services with live bands and worship. It also serves as a full theatrical venue for plays and musicals with large ensembles and casts. Supporting those very different experiences requires technology that is flexible, reliable, and easy for the production team and students to manage.
Valor’s existing wireless microphone system was aging, becoming increasingly difficult to repair, and included equipment that could no longer be used. It was time for an upgrade, but replacing the system meant more than simply buying new microphones. Valor needed 32 channels of wireless capable of supporting large theatrical productions while also providing the right combination of handheld and bodypack transmitters for chapel services and live music. The goal was to build a system that could meet those varied demands while making the workflow simpler for the staff and students responsible for operating it.
With a relationship with Mankin spanning more than a decade across multiple projects of different sizes and venues, it only made sense for Valor to turn to the Mankin team to evaluate the available options. Mankin helped Valor choose the solution that best fit their needs. The team considered multiple wireless platforms, including emerging technology, before ultimately selecting the Sennheiser EW-DX system. The solution included 32 bodypacks and 32 handheld transmitters, giving Valor the flexibility to configure the system differently for theater, chapel, live music, and other events.
The transition to EW-DX also gave Valor an opportunity to rethink the infrastructure surrounding its wireless system. Moving from dual-channel to quad-channel receivers consolidated the equipment into a single rack, eliminating two existing racks and freeing valuable space on stage. Valor also transitioned its wireless audio to Dante and incorporated rechargeable batteries and charging bays into the system. Network connectivity now allows the production team to monitor battery status, RF performance, and audio levels from multiple locations. Front-of-house staff can monitor the system from a computer while a stage manager can simultaneously keep an eye on transmitters and batteries backstage. For a theater filled with students, those seemingly small improvements have made a significant difference. Mic checks are simpler, batteries can be changed before they become a problem, and potential audio issues can be identified before an actor walks on stage. The result is a cleaner workflow with fewer opportunities for technical problems to interrupt the experience.
This project did not require Mankin to install or integrate the system onsite, but Valor received the same level of support they had experienced on larger projects. Questions were answered, problems were worked through, and follow-up support remained available throughout the process. That relationship is particularly important in an environment where technology ultimately supports students. Mankin provided the tools Valor needed to give students an onstage experience “akin to Broadway.” The technology becomes less about the equipment itself and more about allowing students, performers, and production teams to focus on creating the experience.

For Valor, replacing an aging wireless system became an opportunity to improve much more than the microphones. The new system simplifies the production workflow, gives the technical team greater visibility and control, reduces opportunities for mistakes, and provides the flexibility required for everything from weekly chapel to full theatrical productions.
Just as important, Valor had a partner invested in the result—even on a project that was essentially an equipment purchase rather than a full integration.
