Journey Church is a vibrant and growing multi-site church in South Denver. Journey Church & Mankin’s relationship began in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic forced houses of worship to close their doors. Journey engaged Mankin to help deliver high-quality updates to their audio, video & lighting systems in order to support those who called Journey their home church.
Initially, Mankin stepped in to develop a professional broadcasting solution. Mankin delivered on time and on budget during a challenging season of the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of Mankin’s work for the church, Journey engaged Mankin to develop a long-term, comprehensive plan to integrate technology throughout their main campus and for a future building addition that would include a new auditorium. Early in the DREAM process, Journey shared their dream of having multiple locations across the Denver metroplex. Each building has volunteer-friendly, consistent, and flexible AVL systems to support the different needs at each campus. The desire was to give volunteers the opportunity to attend locations closer to their homes, while also engaging the local church.
Journey challenged us to build a flexible, user-friendly system that would not only enable a high-quality worship experience but could also be replicated at different locations and building layouts. This request put Mankin into overdrive to ensure each campus had the same look and sound as the others, while remaining flexible enough to accommodate different room layouts and ministry needs. Beyond the rooms, Journey had a future desire to one day be able to broadcast from any of the locations. The Mankin team’s focus has always been infrastructure first, which has helped us walk the church through opening-weekend needs and plan for future additions. Mankin collaborated closely with leadership to integrate state-of-the-art systems across all campuses to create streamlined workflows for staff and volunteers.
As Journey grew, the Mankin Team integrated AVL systems across multiple campuses, helping the church team consistently produce high-production-value worship services run mostly by volunteers. The Journey team landed on Nexo P-series speakers driven by the latest Nexo amps and processing for their PA. Coordinating frequencies for wireless mics across three locations + portable systems was a challenge in an RF-dense environment like Denver. Shure was engaged to ensure all campuses were properly coordinated, and any mic & beltpack can be used at any location. Yamaha DM7 series consoles are employed at front of house and broadcast audio locations, which ensures that a volunteer can train on one console and move to any other campus to fill in and provide a consistent tonal quality. For lighting, Journey uses volunteers to program and operate their GrandMA lighting consoles. Chauvet Rogue fixtures are used to provide flexible front lighting, while Spots and a selection of Quad Zoom fixtures are used for backlighting. House lighting is handled by The Light Source LED series pendants with native DMX controls. As a multisite campus, Journey’s desire for video broadcast quality has evolved. They utilize Panasonic UE150 series Pan/Tilt/Zoom cameras to accurately capture, record, and stream their services, utilizing Resi for transmission and playback at each campus. Ross video is the heart of their main broadcast location, with the future rollout at the other campuses just over the horizon.
Journey’s focus on volunteer empowerment came at an inflection point as their systems became more complex and as they added campuses. How could a volunteer team own a campus without a technical expert to feed, water, and maintain those systems? Instead of hiring staff, they decided to engage the Guardian by Mankin team. Guardian is there each weekend, able to address any issues, while supporting regular maintenance on weekdays. The Guardian is there each weekend, while their power volunteers can focus on serving and using their skills.

Since 2020, Journey has expanded to three permanent campuses with more on the horizon. Each location has been fully integrated by Mankin and is supported each Sunday by Guardian, enabling this mostly volunteer team to spread the Gospel throughout the greater Denver metroplex and around the world.
